Google’s Gemini Apps Help article on model access and limits is the primary for this change. It is about the consumer Gemini Apps experience on a personal account, not a Workspace rollout note and not an API card. Alberta teams that quietly rely on free personal Gemini for day-to-day drafts will feel October 9 first. Our earlier Argon briefing stays the lead on Gemini 4 Argon pricing and restricted access: Gemini 4 Argon for cyber defenders. This page does not widen Argon.
What Google’s help page says, in Google’s words
The primary is short. It tells personal-account users that model availability changes in October 2026, names October 9 for people without an AI subscription, and tells AI Plus subscribers to watch for an email. It also reminds readers that higher effort levels use more of the usage limit, and that Deep Think is available on AI Pro and AI Ultra.
“Starting in October 2026, there will be changes to model availability for Gemini Apps when you use a personal account.”Google — Changes to Gemini model access and limits, Gemini Apps Help
We re-checked the model-availability table HTML on October 5, 2026. Checkmark images mark access; empty alt icons mark no access. Without a plan: Flash-Lite only. AI Plus: Flash-Lite and Flash. AI Pro and AI Ultra: Flash-Lite, Flash, and Pro. 9to5Google’s October 3, 2026 secondary piece summarises the same Oct change direction; treat it as secondary. Attribute the table to Google’s help page.
Usage limits already on the books, and what this page does not change
The same help article restates the May 17, 2026 usage-limit framing for users over 18 (under-18 timing July 24, 2026): compute-based limits that refresh every 5 hours until a weekly limit, with paid plans higher than standard. The printed multipliers are: without a plan — standard; AI Plus — 2x; AI Pro — 4x; AI Ultra — 5x or 20x higher than AI Pro depending on the subscription. Premium features such as media generation, Deep Research, the Pro model, and extended thinking or Deep Think can consume limits faster. The companion Gemini Apps limits page lists Canada among countries where Google AI Plus is available. This briefing does not print US dollar plan prices as Canadian prices. The help page does not describe Google Workspace or the Gemini API, so do not treat this note as a Workspace admin bulletin or an API quota change. It also does not expand Gemini 4 Argon access.
| Google AI plan | Flash-Lite | Flash | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Without a plan | Yes | No | No |
| AI Plus | Yes | Yes | No |
| AI Pro | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| AI Ultra | Yes | Yes | Yes |
What Alberta operators should do this week (our advice)
What follows is our advice, not Google’s. If staff use free personal Gemini for client drafts, spreadsheets, or agent prompts, they lose Flash and Pro after October 9 under the help-page table. Audit who relies on the free consumer app for work. Move business workflows to a managed Google AI plan that matches the models you need, or to Workspace / API paths your organisation actually administers. Do not assume Argon becomes available because consumer Flash access shrinks. Pair the plan choice with a short AI training Edmonton session so people know which app, which plan, and which data stay off personal accounts. For workflow redesign and plan selection, AI consulting Alberta is a practical next step after the audit, not before.
